Team Resource Management
Team resource management is the application of proven training techniques derived from aviation team training (CRM).
The concepts of team training developed in the aviation industry have delivered proven benefits in safety and efficiency. Global Air Training TRM Training applies these concepts in other safety and performance critical environments.

Application in Business
The lessons learned in Aviation CRM training have wide application in business. Global Air Training, is an international leader in aviation CRM training with a client base of leading world airlines, and we have established a worldwide lead in developing CRM based training courses for business organisations. We are proving that these training concepts are as valuable to general business organisations as they are to the aviation industry.

We define an ‘Adverse Event’ as any event caused by human error, or incorrect practice, which causes a risk of harm to an employee or the public, causes financial loss to the company or damage to the relationship with its client.

Our TRM training program is applicable to any business in which human errors and failures of teamwork are detrimental to the success of the enterprise. Businesses can learn from aviation's research and methodologies and apply techniques and interventions that have been proven in the most critical environments.

TRM Training
The Team Resource Management course focuses on the skills and attitudes required to make an individual more effective in a team. Taking a complete overview of the system we look not just at the team but how the team works within the wider organisation to achieve a safer and more efficient operation.

Many factors affect human performance and the functioning and safety of the organisation such as communication and co-ordination, standard operating procedures, minimum operating standards, workload management and situational awareness.

Throughout the course we promote an awareness of behavioural attitudes to improve and develop communication and interpersonal relationships with all those involved, across the workforce and those that support the industry. Team members learn to recognise the key indicators which may precede an adverse event, and gain effective skills to break the error chain.

Our approach is to apply classroom instruction and facilitation alongside practical exercises including case studies, group discussions and reviews to analyse the causes of error chains, communication problems and instances or examples of lack of information or effective resource management.

Outcomes

  • Enhanced awareness of the human factors, which could cause or exacerbate incidents that impact a safe operation or the environment.
  • Development of TRM skills and attitudes to effectively utilise all available resources, to achieve a safe, compliant and efficient operation.
  • Use of TRM knowledge, skills and attitudes to conduct and manage safe operations, and fully integrate these techniques throughout organisation culture, so as to prevent the onset of incidents and potential accidents.
  • To use these skills to integrate commercially efficient operations with safety and compliance, and to improve the working environment for personnel and all those associated with the operation.

The training sessions cover the theoretical and practical aspects of TRM training with relevant references to, and examination of, human factor related adverse events and near misses.  Sessions include the use of training video footage, incident reports, case studies, simulation exercises, group discussions and incident reviews.

Throughout the programme, an awareness of behavioural attitudes is promoted to improve and develop communication and interpersonal relationships with all those involved in the patient care pathway. The programme is designed to address the nature of the organisation's day-to-day operations as well as the associated protocols and procedures, including areas that produce particular difficulties, adverse conditions and any unusual hazards.

Delegate Outcomes
The outcomes of the programme will ensure that the participants have a greater awareness and understanding of how human factors and performance limitations can lead to unsafe practice. The participants will be able to identify the clues that reveal an incipient error chain and select and apply appropriate intervention strategies.

For maximum effectiveness, complete organisational involvement is required in the TRM training programme. This involvement should become an ongoing part of the programme. A key challenge for TRM programme leaders is to communicate that need to the rest of the organisation and to establish a strong commitment from top management down.
