Team Resource Management in Healthcare

Team Resource Management Instructor (TRMI) Core Course

The TRM Instructor programme uses classroom instruction and practical exercises, including group discussions and patient safety incident reviews to analyse the influence of human factors in the healthcare environment, with consideration of the entire team and all supporting services.

The programme will develop the delegates’ skills and knowledge to enable the planning, design and delivery of effective TRM and Human Factors training sessions in healthcare environments.

The Global Air Training Team Resource Management Instructor programme is unique worldwide because it runs alongside our Aviation Crew Resource Management programme. The two cohorts are able to attend joint sessions, which allows for shared learning and the opportunity to explore the perspective of human factors instruction in another professional setting.

Particular consideration is given to the use of the latest generation of advanced high fidelity patient simulators which allow realistic patient simulation training for the practice of Human Factors and Team Resource Management skills. Taking advantage of the latest technology, simulation helps to support healthcare staff to make better decisions and test potential changes in a risk free environment.

In the aviation environment, high fidelity aircraft simulators have been in universal use for many years, and the industry has unrivalled experience in training using simulation. The use of simulation is now rapidly increasing for healthcare professionals, particularly in anaesthesia and critical care environments, driven by the availability of high fidelity patient simulators which provide a realistic training experience.
